A colour tray!

My toddler is obsessed with telling me what colour things are – and about 90% of the time, things are blue (despite their green or orange appearance!). So I thought it was time for some dedicated colour identification! I set up a tray with some coloured cups, muffin cases, craft sticks and cogs from a toy. We played lots of games – ‘put the red stick in the red cup’, ‘hand me the green muffin case’, ‘put the purple cog in the purple muffin tray’, ‘what colour is this stick’ – to name but a few. My son instigated the body parts game too – ‘put a green cup on your foot’, ‘put a yellow cup on your hand’ etc. He thought it was brilliant!

We also read some books with colours in, and used our coloured objects to re-iterate which object was what colour. It was lots of fun, and my toddler was happily occupied for an hour! He then spent the rest of the morning colour identifying things (with a slightly better success rate!).

Hi! I’m Claire, stay-at-home-mum to two gorgeous boys and a lovely girl. My kids are energetic, spirited and full-of-life, and they certainly keep me on my toes. I love spending time with them and seeing them learn and experience new things – I hope that this blog will give you ideas to try out on the children in your life!
