Original Olympic Games!

One of the first things I thought of when thinking of activities for a week ‘visiting’ Greece was the Olympic Games. I wanted to introduce the boys to the idea of what they are, and the fact that they originated in Greece. Here is a great introduction of the history of the games, and the Origins of the Olympics clip in YouTube is a good accompaniment.

We decided that we should hold our own Olympic Games! We first made an Olympic torch using some foil and shredded tissue paper.

We then had great fun making this hoopla game, which we got from Activity Village. My toddler was mostly able to drop the rings over the bottles, but my pre-schooler did actually manage to throw them on (though not from any great distance!). I also thought we might try some running races and an egg and spoon race, though we had to modify these so that my toddler didn’t feel left out! Great fun, and we’ve kept the hoopla game to play with again.

Inquisitive

Hi! I’m Claire, stay-at-home-mum to two gorgeous boys and a lovely girl. My kids are energetic, spirited and full-of-life, and they certainly keep me on my toes. I love spending time with them and seeing them learn and experience new things – I hope that this blog will give you ideas to try out on the children in your life!
